Every detail needed to be meticulously planned and executed upon.

High-grade (A1) vertical grain Douglas-Fir (VG Fir) veneered plywood was used for all the cabinet bodies and doors / drawer fronts. Pictured here is a comparison of Rift-Sawn’s vertical grain pattern (top) vs. Plain Sawn’s swirly, cathedral grain pattern (bottom).

All edge banding is milled in my workshop using solid wood — in this case, VG Fir — and is attached via tongue & groove joints + glue.

Structurally speaking, joints are the most important parts of a cabinet. That is the reason each cabinet is jointed with it’s end application in mind. Here the cabinet will overhang it’s toe kick in all directions so dowel pins were used to attach the bottom to the sides, allowing for a stronger connection.

All cabinet doors and drawer fronts were grain matched.

Fillers and cabinet sides are scribed to match the contours and/or angles of the wall that they will be touching. Here I’m using a Block Plane to accurately cut away the side of a cabinet by following a line I traced off the wall. The goal here is to have no gaps between the cabinet and the wall.

Doors and drawer fronts are installed to have a consistent 1/8” reveal. The finished product of grain matching the doors / drawer fronts can also be clearly seen.
